Testing antenna-in-package (AiP) designs at millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies requires an over-the-air (OTA) test system with high output power, ultra-low phase noise, wide analysis bandwidth, and a high dynamic range. These features improve measurement performance in OTA test at mmWave frequencies for 5G and satellite applications. The system should comprise a microwave signal generator, a signal analyzer, and signal generation and measurement software. Also needed are a beamformer and an AiP module.
The microwave signal generator provides high output power and compensates for system loss. The beamformer transmits the 5G new radio (NR) signal from the signal generator in the mmWave band with beamforming. At the same time, the AiP module provides the signal to the signal analyzer for analysis. A signal analyzer with high dynamic range and error vector magnitude (EVM) enables accurate analysis of all 5G NR signal parameters and characterization of AiP designs.
