Verifying Wi-Fi® device RF performance on the manufacturing line

Verifying Wi-Fi® devices on the manufacturing line requires a multi-port test chassis with high port density to support the multi-antenna and multi-radio designs of the latest Wi-Fi standards. The test set must be capable of running non-signaling tests on multiple devices-under-test at once. High-volume, high-speed testing is achieved by scheduling test execution across multiple test sets concurrently. Test sets must support all Wi-Fi frequencies including 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, and 7.3 GHz, with bandwidth up to 800 MHz. Support for other standards including 5G, Bluetooth®, and near-field communications (NFC) is desirable if the device supports multiple radio standards.

Design verification and manufacturing tests for transmitters include transmit spectral mask, spectral flatness, and modulation accuracy. Test solutions that can generate baseband signals will be able to verify the RF requirements for receivers, including receiver minimum input sensitivity, adjacent and non-adjacent channel rejection, and receiver maximum input level. For design verification and manufacturing test, the test solution must be capable to calibrate and verify multiple client devices, multiple access points, multiple antennas with different frequency ranges, and verify RF performance with MIMO.

Design verification and manufacturing test for Wi-Fi devices requires non-signaling tests for the latest Wi-Fi standards, including 802.11be, plus support for other radios in the device-under-test, such as 5G NR FR1, and Bluetooth® 5.1. The Keysight Wi-Fi test and validation solution consists of the Keysight wireless test set and Keysight X-Series measurement software. The solution dynamically configures port assignments based on the wireless standard being tested, and can test multiple devices in parallel. Tests are sequenced and automated using internal switching between ports. Test throughput can be scaled during design verification and manufacturing with test set control, automation, and sequencing software.
