IEEE International Conference on Communications 2024: Scaling the Peaks of 6G
Keysight joins telecom industry leaders and engineers to help set the next generation of wireless communications technology.
The telecommunications industry’s most influential tech leaders and researchers are set to gather in Denver during early June for this year’s IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC). With the theme “Scaling the Peaks of Global Communications,” the discussions at ICC 2024 are expected to focus heavily on the research and development of 6G. As a leading provider of design, test, and emulation solutions to the telecommunications industry, Keysight Technologies will be at ICC this year to showcase its 6G research and partnerships, which are enabling the next generation of wireless communications.
"ICC is one of the most important events of the year, bringing together the top telecoms thought leaders to discuss the technical challenges we face as an industry and potential paths forward," said Sarah LaSelva, Director of 6G Marketing for Keysight. "Not only does ICC give us an opportunity to interact with our peers to further wireless communications research, this conference also allows us to help set the direction of 6G through discussions on topics like standards, AI, and cybersecurity."
IEEE ICC 2024 Program Highlights
In addition to a high-quality technical program featuring 13 symposia and a variety of tutorials, workshops, and exhibits, ICC 2024 will also present keynotes and panels from prominent research, industry, business, and government leaders. Keysight will participate in three industry panels during the conference:
- Cybersecurity in a Mobile Wireless World: What More is Required? – Keysight 6G Program Manager Roger Nichols will moderate this panel that will explore the implications of a network that has the unprecedented ability to track an individual's location and behaviors.
- Exploring the Future of Sustainability in Communication with Next G Alliance – LaSelva will moderate this panel that will discuss recently published white papers about new sustainability KPIs for the RAN and data centers.
- Bridging the Gap: Channel Sounding and Modeling for Joint Communications and Sensing – LaSelva will also moderate this panel that will examine the models that are needed to fully advance the concept of joint communications and sensing.
Along with demonstrations highlighting AI channel estimation and FR3 ray tracing at booth # 314, Keysight will be demonstrating an early 6G network prototype in partnership with Ericsson at booth # 318. The demonstration, based on Ericsson’s pre-standard 6G concept and tailored for new spectrum bands, represents an initial step toward validating a 6G protocol stack. The modified software stack has been created using real-world hardware to establish a connection between an Ericsson base station and an emulated user equipment from Keysight.
“By working closely with Ericsson during the entire development process, we’ve been able to create a working 6G link to show the feasibility of this technology,” said Nichols. “This is an important step forward that we are excited to share with the industry at ICC — one that will serve as the basis of many more accomplishments that Keysight will have with its 6G research partners.”
The IEEE ICC is one of two flagship conferences hosted by the IEEE Communications Society. Each year, close to 2,000 attendees from more than 70 counties attend this five-day event to learn about the latest research and innovations in communications and networking technology, share ideas and best practices, and collaborate on future projects.
