Performing ETSI and FCC regulatory tests, among others
Validating the regulatory pre-compliance and compliance of an IoT device requires running it through various tests from standards bodies and regulatory agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States, European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in the European Union, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in Japan, Korea Radio Research Agency (KCC) in Korea, and the State Radio Regulatory Commission (SRRC) in China. Apart from tests for power, bandwidth, and frequency, device designers need to perform tests such as dynamic frequency selection (DFS), ETSI adaptivity, and FCC contention-based protocol (CBP).
A complete regulatory system requires a signal analyzer, analog and vector signal generators, signal conditioning test sets, a MIMO power test set, and RF and automation accessories such as cables, adapters, attenuators, LAN switches, and USB hubs. Engineers also need a frequency extender for tests above 6 GHz and regulatory test software that covers signaling and non-signaling test cases for common radio formats such as WLAN, Bluetooth®, and ZigBee®. These tests generate large volumes of data at high speed, so the test systems must be able to collect, process, and analyze the data sets to verify the device design against compliance. The test system also needs to produce the test results in the report format required by the respective regulatory agencies.
IoT regulatory compliance test solution
IoT regulatory testing requires executing many tests from various standards bodies and regulatory agencies. Combining hardware components with regulatory test software, the Keysight IOT0047A regulatory test solution tests wireless devices for regulatory compliance across a wide range of standards, including the FCC, ETSI, KC, MIC, and SRRC, while simplifying the process with purpose-built test automation. The IOT0047A and its purpose-built software make testing wireless devices in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz unlicensed bands easy and efficient.
