Making multichannel current measurements requires multiple test instruments and external current shunt accessories. Typical test applications during the product design stage include checking for current leaks, making precise current measurements for embedded systems with multi-output control functions, and monitoring multiple devices or loads. Wiring and configuring these instruments become more complex as the number of current measurement channels increases. Improperly configured test instrument connections cause measurement errors.
Using a switching system that connects multiple input channels to one or two measuring channels reduces setup complexity. A data acquisition (DAQ) system is ideal for this purpose. The switching system measures one channel at a time but at a very high speed, which works for non-dynamic current measurement applications. A PC software application can assist in configuring the wiring, selecting triggering mechanisms, executing measurements, and plotting data graphically for monitoring and analysis.
