Evaluating a 5G device for protocol conformance requires running test cases developed by certification bodies based on 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications against the device. The first step is to create and configure the test plan. Test engineers need to find the test cases applicable to the device using Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) / Protocol Implementation extra Information (PIXIT) parameters.
To ensure mobile devices perform as expected on a live mobile network, engineers must run 5G Release 15 and Release 16 protocol conformance test cases as defined in 3GPP specifications. Test engineers can run tests individually or sequentially. They need a network emulation solution that enables the creation of a test campaign and automation setup, including SIM card changes, using a SIM programmer switch. Monitoring test activity during execution will help uncover issues. Based on the results, engineers can troubleshoot and repeat the tests to achieve the required results.
