Accurate positioning is a fundamental feature of ultra-wideband (UWB) devices. The time-of-flight (ToF) measurement is essential in the test and validation process. The method ensures that the device under test (DUT) accurately reports the signal flight time, which is critical for precise distance calculations. ToF testing measures the distance between the initiator, which sends the signal, and the responder, which receives it. It verifies that the DUT’s reporting mechanism functions correctly and enables accurate proximity calculations between UWB devices.
Performing ToF measurements requires a high-precision test system to provide reliable and robust ranging timestamps. The test system must perform precise time measurements in either an over-the-air (OTA) or conducted environment. The test setup includes a test chamber for the OTA test, a vector transceiver for sending and receiving signals, and software for signal generation and analysis.
